More precisely, my heart fluttered as my eyelids opened wide and the goosebumps slowly but steadily worked their way across the surface of my body.
Look at the perfection of this dress/ coat. As I write this, my heart rate is still trying to calm down. Now, I'm not going to discuss whether she was the perfect choice or how far this is in connection with the real Alexander Mc Queen (although I probably should) - I simply want to admire this dress/coat. On its own. Without context, without meaning, just for its alone standing perfection.
And here it is, once again, in its full glory of perfection (in my eyes):
But this time I woke up in a bed--as opposed to the floor that I had been sleeping on since I moved to Georgia! I'm a big girl now! I've got a bed! Woo!
Following the somewhat uneventful wake up, I headed to the pool in the golf cart with Bonnie and the kiddies. Lucky and Nicole met us later. Around 3 o'clock I left the pool, got home, checked my voice mail and lo and be hold I had a missed call from a job!
Woop!
Good new: JOB -- Bad news: They wanted me in last minute at 5 to help them out.
Well I wasn't going to say no.
So I rushed like a mad woman, showered off my sunscreen and chlorine, did my hair and drove to the outlets to pick up clothes for work. On my way I called Banana Republic and asked if they could pull all black pants and shirts in my size. As soon as I walked in the girl at the counter asked if I was me... she could probably tell by the frantic-crazed-sweaty look on my face!
I was literally in and out of the store in 15 minutes with a new uniform for my new job. I had the BEST customer service experience of my life. It was so good that I went back today to tell the girls manager. She seemed proud. I hope the girl gets a raise or point or a better employee discount or something.
Getting back to the point:
I busted my butt at the new job, a restaurant obviously (black on black uniform), and honestly had a good time. I never realized how much I missed the crazy fast paced environment of a restaurant.
I go back tomorrow and Wednesday for serving staff and then this weekend I go back and work in the kitchen... Not bad.
I'm still working at the tire place; I'll just go in after I get off in the day time from the restaurant--ugh it's going to be 90 tomorrow.
The Eclipse triangle : Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner
It’s been six months since the last Twilight series movie hit cinemas. Teenagers (and their mothers and grandmothers and me and my friends ... OK everybody) all around the world kept waiting and waiting for the new installment of the saga. „Eclipse“ is not out until next Wednesday but the US premiere has already took place with the entire cast in attendance.
I was so excited to see what would Kristen Stewart wear to the big event since her few last outfits were pretty amazing. And she didn’t dissapoint this time either. Kristen wore a beautiful, white Elie Saab 2009 couture dress. She paired her outfit with high heels from Christian Louboutin. The rest of the cast impressed as well. It looked like the „Eclipse“ actresses chose either Elie Saab or Marchesa. Besides Ms. Stewart, Dakota Fanning wore another dress from the designer, while Marchesa was a Nikki Reed’s and Anna Kendrick’s choice. The girls looked amazing. This time I also must say some great things about Rob Pattinson, who made a huge statement with his Gucci suit. Bravo! Cannot wait to see the movie, it’s being recommended for being the best one so far from the whole series. I must admit I liked this book most from the first three so hopefully the movie will be as equally good. The cast is apparently shooting „Breaking Dawn“ starting next week but it won’t be out until 2011. For now let’s enjoy „Eclipse“ and some great red carpet moments from the cast.
I have been wish-lusting after the Albeit jewelry letter necklace in "A" for some time now.
I think that I first saw it on The Look for Less a few months ago, and before that on another blog (but I can't think of it right now).
Unfortunately I have only been LUSTING. This pretty bobble runs (at minimum) $310.00 on Max and Chloe--the most I've seen it go for is about $350.00 on other jewelry sites.
Yesterday while doing my daily web browsing I found out via Louise Loves It that my new favorite necklace, that I do not yet own but one day hopefully I will, was on SALE. Now mind you I am all about sales as many most of you know, however this sale was and is pretty awesome, and better than most sales.
Max and Chloe is offering a ONE WEEK ONLY SALE (most likely ending tonight) marking all Albeit jewelry FIFTY PERCENT (yes, 50%) OFF! (Yes, you read that correctly) Which puts the new price for this cute/subtle necklace at a far more reasonable $155.00.
If you are anything like me when it comes to shopping you know that a good deal can only get better. Thanks to my shopping addiction, my refusal to buy ANYTHING at full price, and to my addiction to using coupons for all of my online shopping purchases, the sale on Max and Chloe for the Albeit necklace ONLY GETS BETTER!
If you sign up for Ebates and shop through their link for Max and Chloe you get 5% back on your order in the form of a check or paypal a few months down the line. Then before you complete your purchase if you apply the coupon code MCJLS63 at checkout you get $15 off AND free shipping added to your order. Adding all of the steals and deals together makes the final purchase (estimating tax) around $130ish.
You have to admit, that's not a half bad deal for a necklace that usually retails in the $300 range.
Unfortunately (again) my student loans are coming due and I've got a plane ticket to buy for weddings this July, so this AWESOME sale is not for me. I wish it were. Even though my birthday is less than a week away (I literally just realized this yesterday) I don't think that this necklace, even on sale, is a gift that my family will splurge on for me, so I'll just have to save it for my permanent wish list. I very much so regret not being able to take advantage of this sale; I just hope that some of my readers can.
I am pretty sure the sale ends tonight--so get on it! If you want to check out what your letter (or favorite number) looks like on the necklace go to Albeit Jewelry and see the entire collection for your self. If you're not a fan of the collection the Ebates offer and coupon code are still in working order. Feel free to use them for something else.
Let me know if you guys get anything--especially if one of you gets the necklace! I'll definitely be jealous, but then I'll be able to live vicariously through you and not cry to myself that I missed out on a really good friggin' deal. Ugh.
Although I tend to forget that I ever lived in Germany and believe myself to be firmly anchored in British culture, there is no denying that every now and then my German past catches up with me. It doesn't happen often, and I am usually on my own, but this catch-up manifests itself mainly in the form of German Pop Music, disrupting my usual taste in music, firmly based within groups that tend to have a "the" prefix to their band name, long hair and were around in the 60s. At the high tide of puberty, I was blessed, or cursed, with the presence of cable television. For a single year only, before we moved into a massive light white heavenly loft without phones or internet and generally were cut off from the outside world. Having very happily grown up playing with my beloved rabbit and climbing trees to get out of reach of chore reminders so I could read my books in peace, my mother had consciously, with mine and my sister's approval, decided to not have TV. And ever since that one year at the height of puberty, I've quite happily continued with that pearl of wisdom. I don't have TV and I don't want one, especially since things such as the BBC iPlayer grace our lives.
To get back to the point, though, nostalgia does play peekaboo with me every now and then - for an afternoon or so. Today is another such day, so I decided to share the joys of my guilty pleasures, the joys of German pop culture that has stuck with me from that single year. To my disappointment, most of the original music videos were either taken down or not available in the UK, so some of them are just lyrics.
This is just one of the cutest videos ever. I like the duo Ich + Ich, they're pretty random and cool.
The actual video is very sweet and a continuation of the previous. It even includes a scene in which the dog from the first clip comes out of a limousine and disappears under a flood of camera flash lights - you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lRaqtYnapo They unfortunately disabled the embedding mode - I don't really get why they would do that. It's not like it isn't being watched or like it can be tampered with elsewhere. Anyway, here goes.
Momentan ist wichtig, momentan ist gut. Nichts ist wirklich wichtig, nach der Ebbe kommt die Flut. (The moment is important, the moment is good. Nothing is really important. After the low tide comes the high tide). Sounds inspiring right? Not until you discover he cheated on his from cancer dying wife.
This one still makes me blush and I prefer just listening to it. And actually, it annoys me a bit. The lyrics say "If you have only one more thing to do, if you have only one more question to ask - let it be love". Except, OK, they are obviously talking about sex. Jeez. Get it right! Liebe is alles was wir brauchen - Love is all you need (yes, I know, Beatles alert.)
Not much to say, except I just love this song, judge all you want. At the tender age of 15 I went and joined the Love Parade and I gotta tell you, there is NOTHING like it. EVER. It's sad they stopped it, it's something everyone should experience. And the marketing that it is the "biggest party in the world" and that you "feel the love dripping through your body" is not exaggerated at all. I am glad I went to enjoy it in my own innocent way, it was historic. Mark Spoon, the DJ, died of a heart attack 2006.
This song brings up a question that I realized was so obvious I couldn't imagine why nobody had ever thought about it before. Well, I hadn't (at age 15). She questions what hate must feel like if love hurts so much.
Sieh mir noch einmal in die Augen bevor Du gehst - Look into my eyes once more before you leave. A video taking inspiration from the film Eyes Wide Shut that brought Nicole Kindman and Tom Cruise together. The topic of the song is quite close to my heart and deals with the trust people put in you as someone who is in a position to command it but how it is exploited mercilessly with a straight face. In an interview Xavier pointed out that this applies as much to someone who cheats on their loved ones as to someone who is corrupt and not honest about how they do their business.
Xavier wrote this song in memory of one of his bests friends who got shot in Mannheim.
I don't particularly like this song but it just gets stuck in my head and then I have to listen to it. For a very long time I thought they were singing "Youth is wasted on the young" instead of "It's too late to look beyond" which I preferred a lot more.
Where the hell is their original video? *anger* Anyway, we'll have to make do with the crappy US version. One of their band members is always involved in trouble - most recently she was charged with manslaughter for not letting her lover know that she had HIV and having unprotected sex anyway - resulting, of course, in contracting him with the virus. She was always a bit controversial. She looks like an angel but not only did she used to be a drug user but also had a child as a teenager. Considering the image of the group, it is always weird to hear about that, as they in no way try to incorporate it - it's just completely separate - almost like hearing news about a different person, which not only points out how lame German media is but more importantly, that someone can have done all that and still have a fraction of their character that is strong enough to portray something relatively wholesome.
There could NOT be a more typical German singer. Including the fact that she sings in badly translated English (when she isn't being produced by American rappers). She collaborated with a few big names, which makes her a "Pop Princess" in Germany - actually that's a bit of an insult. She's one of the best selling German artists of all time, according to Wikipedia.
This one is not strictly German (Belgian), but she could as well have been, the badly translated English lyrics being eminent. Probably songs that I like because it's so easy to dance to and sing to out loud whilst tidying your room.
Rammstein with their re-interpretation of that annoying perfect princess image of Snowhite. As I child I was often compared to snowhite because I had extremely red lips, white skin and dark brown hair and eyes, so this was quite welcomed. Of course I'm nothing like her - I don't do drugs and am nowhere near this mean. I know, she's mean and evil in this clip, but still better than being fairytale perfect, I say.
And last but not least, the glorious Guano Apes with their car trashing video.
There you go, I hope you enjoyed my guilty pleasure German Pop afternoon.
Some might ask what is the fuss about? But this LPD (Little Purple Dress) is definitely one of the stars from the pre - fall collections. Late Alexander McQueen – the designer of the dress – still stays on the top. This angular-shouldered crepe dress was first worn by ex – Spice Girl Emma Bunton at Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards. The singer looked beautiful, very girly but at the same time very aware of her womanly looks. Last night actress Salma Hayek was another one to put on McQueen’s purple dress to “The Late Show with David Letterman” and she as well looked stunning. I believe there is something about this dress that could make every women look amazing. God McQueen knew what he was doing while designing it. The drape on the dress and covered up shoulders would make each and every woman look slimmer. This is a perfect choice for a woman with some real curves. I know, I would love to get one. It costs €1,295 at net-a-porter.com and just today all the sizes besides 44 are available again (last night there were almost all sold out). So if you want to dress to impress and can affor it I’d say go for it and make it yours.
I cannot imagine a day without a latte. This perfect combination of black coffee and milk. O God I need some caffeine now! At the moment it looks like the fashion world is thinking the same since coffee latte color has become one of the most popular ones this season. It’s all started with actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, when she wore a nude beige Yves Saint Laurent gown to the Opera play in New York City last April. After Maggie's YSL dress statement, other brands followed. Chanel made its contribution to the hottest color trend by presenting Inattendu – a nail polish from Le Vernis collection , which quickly became one of the ‘its’ colors of the spring/summer 2010 season. Now let's talk about shoes. I’d love to get get those nude Christian Louboutin Décolleté 100 pumps. They cost €395 at net-a-porter.com but still are worth every penny! Oh latte, now it looks like I need more than one.
