Jason Wu Spring 2012

Thanks for all the kind words on my last post... I'm very excited about starting school! To answer your questions, I'm going to Portland State University (which has 27,000 students, so if you're thinking about being a creeper and stalking me in real life, good luck finding me!) and studying linguistics and education.

Anyways, on to more important matters!

Pop Quiz:
Leanna's Favorite Designer is...
A) Jason Wu
B) All of the above.
C) A and B.

Yay! You got it right!
Mr. Wu showed his Spring Ready-to-Wear line at NYFW, and like any devoted fan would, I refreshed Style.com every hour until they posted the pictures from his show. Because, as you all are well aware, I'm a nobody and will never be enough of a somebody to merit an invitation to such an event, so I much satisfy my fashion cravings via the all-knowing interwebs.

I've blogged Mr. Wu's three previous collections (Pre-Fall 2011, Fall 2011, Resort 2012), and if I'm being honest this one if probably my least favorite out of the 4. That's not to say I don't like it, but it doesn't make me say...
OHMYGOSHILOVETHATIWANTITANDINEEDITLOVELOVELOVEFREAKINGGORGEOUS!!
... like his other collections have.

Probably the main reason I'm not totally in love is the liberal use of granny panties, of which there are 5. That's 5 too many granny panties for me. Also, I really don't like the styling, which I know has nothing to do with the clothes themselves, but still... it's just distracting. I really hate that orange lip stick they're all wearing, and what's on the back of their heads?

Like I said, though, I'm definitely not saying I don't like the collection overall. Take away the granny panties and funky lip color and there's some really great stuff going on here. That black and white floral print is pretty gorgeous, but even more so in the blue. I really like the peachy-pink color he used some at the beginning, but definitely do not like the pink he used at the end. There's a couple pieces in there that are pretty unflattering, but mostly there are lots of clean, elegant silhouettes.

My favorite part is that so many pieces from this show are actually wearable. So often you see "ready to wear" shows that look like couture shows, with ridiculously outrageous color and silhouettes that no one would really ever wear. And while a lot of the pieces from this collection are a little more fancy than most people probably have use for, there are still a number of pieces that could be incorporated into an everyday wardrobe.

FOR THE LOVE OF STEVIE N. AND F. MAC

Thanks to last night's Glee-pisode my (previous) Fleetwood Mac jumped up the scale a weee bit.

Then I went on a Stevie Nicks internet browsing spree...

// 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 //

So help my wallet... thank goodness I refrained from buying songs on itunes--that's all I'm going to say.

Here is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song...
(not featured on last night's Glee-pisode, but still a favorite none-the-less)

Umm, 'cuse me, but can you PLEASE check out Stevie Nicks hair is this video?!
Absolutely RIDICULOUS!!
I love it!

Outfit: For the Love of Yellow

Necklace: Target --- Top & Purse: Forever21 --- Belt: Thrifted --- Skirt and Rings: Handmade --- Sandals: Urban Outfitters
Today I am declaring that yellow is my new favorite color. I love it with blue, I love it with green, I love it with orange... I love it! The color of this skirt isn't quite as mustard-y as I was going for, but I like it anyways because it's still yellow.

Making all these skirts is infectious... I've made all three that I bought fabric for and all I want to do is go buy more fabric to make more of them. All things considered they're pretty cheap. Between the fabric, thread, and elastic I'd say each one costs about $10. It's not as cheap as thrifting them, but it's way cheaper than buying from a store. Plus I get to pick out the fabric with is mountains of fun. With thrifting and regular shopping you just have to keep your fingers crossed that you'll find something with a sweet print or color. With sewing you know you'll get a sweet print or color.
If you have a foot phobia or something, I apologize. I just really like the straps on these sandals and wanted to show them off. :)

Green Glass Ring, Olive Swarovski Ring, Blue Kyanite Ring
Scored this necklace on the clearance rack at Target for $4.48 or something ridiculously cheap like that. Thanks, Target!

Outfit: Orange You Excited?

Jacket: Forever21 --- Top: Dijon --- Necklace: Handmade --- Belt: Thrifted --- Skirt: Consigned? --- Vintage Clutch: LookBackCloset --- Seychelles Heels: Nordstrom --- Earrings: Courtesy of Allie
So what do you call a skirt you got at a consignment shop? Consigned? Or is it just thrifted? Or something else? I don't know. Consigned sounds fine to me, but I don't think I've ever seen that before so maybe people just say it's thrifted. I've never actually bought anything in a consignment shop before (which may or may not have anything to do with the fact that I've never been inside a consignment shop before, but who knows), but Joni took to me one when we were in West Seattle and I saw this skirt and really loved the color. It got major bonus points due to the fact that it still had all the original tags on it. So yeah, brand new skirt. Yay me!

So, maybe you're wondering why I asked you if you are excited in the title of this post. Or maybe not. But if you are, here's why:

I've marked down all of the earrings in my Etsy shop to 50% off since I'm going to be mainly focusing on my rings (and I guess a few necklaces as well). So now I've got earrings in my shop from a whopping $3.00 all the way up to the astronomical price of $8.00. I've already sold a few pairs on to friends on facebook, so if you want a pair (or two. or three. or four), get 'em quick! Plus, I'm totally OK with you combining the 10% off coupon code in my sidebar with your purchase. I just want these earrings gone.

If you want to check out the earrings, click HERE.

OK, annoying saleswoman spiel over. I promise not to say anything about it ever again!

Outfit: Out of Hibernation

Necklace: Handmade --- Cardigan: H&M --- Purse: Forever21 --- Tank Top: Target --- Belt: Thrifted --- Skirt: Thrifted --- Booties: Kohls

Well folks, today is the day. I'm not wearing tights. When I proudly announced this to my mom this morning, she said, "Oh, I thought you were wearing those white tights again." Nothing like a little positive reinforcement to start you day, eh?

Even though I'm probably going to complain about how white my legs are for the next week, I actually do quite like being so pale. Having orange skin is a fad, and some day all the orange people are going to look at my pasty white legs and drool with jealously. At least that's how the story goes in my head. Until that day, though, I will continue to be a proud albino.

Also, this might possibly be the last time my brown hair will grace the pages of this blog. I'm about 60% sure I'm going to get it dyed and cut tomorrow (if not tomorrow, then next week for sure). I've been planning this cut for almost a month now, so I'm anxious to get it done!

Scratch that! I'm getting it cut on the 3rd...

Outfit: Skippy Doo, Caribou

I saw this belt at St. Vincent dePaul and I said, "I must have that belt". The fact that it is far too big for my waist is a minor technicality. I just pulled it through the loop and tucked the end behind. Looks a little weird, but it's cool to look weird nowadays, right?
Jewelry made with white magnesite and caribou antler.

Outfit + Spring Etsy Finds

I know it doesn't look like it, but I am wearing tights, I swear!
Look, Mr. Sun, I'm wearing shorts today, just for you! Come visit me please.

I felt kind of scandalous on my way to work this morning when I realized my coat is just as long as my shorts, but I swear these shorts have a 6 inch inseam, which I think it plenty long for shorts. Most shorts these days have 3 or less.

Anyways, let's check out a few Etsy things I found today using the search term "pink and blue spring":

Style Inspiration: Polyvore

So I know a lot of you guys already know about Polyvore, but I only found it fairly recently so I figured I'd share anyways in case there are any other poor folks like I was that hadn't heard of it.

I don't really know how to describe Polyvore without just using pictures, so that's what I'll go ahead and do. Pictures:

I just whipped up a few of these to show as an example. On Polyvore, you search for items ("red top", "white shoes", etc.), click and drag them on to the template area, and create outfits. They even have accessories like belts, sunglasses, and headbands so you can create a full look from head to toe. This is pretty cool for a lot of reasons:

1) It's the grown up version of paper dolls. And who didn't play with paper dolls as a kid?

2) You can experiment a lot more quickly and easily that trying on clothes in real life. Say you've been wondering about mixing some prints together. Instead of grabbing 20 things in a store and spending the next hour in the dressing room, just find a few things on Polyvore, lay them out, and see what you think. Also it's great for seeing what colors you like together.

3) It makes shopping easy. OK, so maybe this is actually a bad thing. But really, all you have to do is click on an item and it tells you what store it's from, how much it costs, and gives you a link to the actual item so you can buy it if you want. So once you find that perfect stripes and spots combo, you don't have to run out to the store to find something similar, you can just buy the outfit online right away and you know it'll look good.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over and start creating!

Outfits: the Bun, the Bee, and the Brown (Skirt)

Before my outfits, just wanted to say thanks again for everyone who is praying/thinking of Tiffany. Her husband posted an update on facebook last night and said she is starting to recover movement in her right arm and leg! She doesn't have the fine motor skills back yet, but she can at least move them. She is also regaining her ability to speak, which is a huge step in the right direction. She got to see both of her boys yesterday, which was the first time since her air embolism on Monday. She is still far from normal, but she is making huge strides. Keep praying that her brain will continue to heal!

March 23-
I can't think of anything to say about this... I suppose that's probably for the best. Moving on...

March 24-
Yes I know this is blurry. For some reason the camera would focus on anything but me today. Phooey on the camera. But you get the basic idea... shirt over dress, tights, shoes, yadayadayada.

Unfortunately this is not my umbrella. I borrowed it from the shop for picture taking purposes. I may just have to buy it for myself sometime, though, since it's super cool.

Also, new necklace I made for myself:

March 25-
I ordered this vintage skirt from pegasusvintage in the late afternoon of March 21st, it was shipped the 22nd, and it arrived the 24th (yesterday). Pretty speedy, no? It's exactly what I wanted: a brown skirt that's long enough that I can hike it up around my waist without showing off my undies. And for only $8? Yes please!

Style Inspiration: Michelle Williams

I just realized that I actually have never seen a movie with Michelle Williams in it (and I looked up her filmography on IMDb to confirm), so I have no clue if she's a good actress or not. I do, however, know that I love her style. She's another pixie-cutter, which seems to be a common trend among the people I find fashionable. Anyways, check out some of her looks:

She's definitely into neutrals, but I have to say the last dress - which she wore the the Oscars a few years back - is my favorite dress out of them all and the color is amazing. She also definitely likes vintage inspired looks, which I appreciate quite a lot. Overall, I really love what she wears. Perhaps I'll have to check out some movies she's done to see if I like her acting as well.

Outfits: Matchy Matchy

March 19-
Red pants + red shoes = fun.

This is the second of the two jackets I got from the ModCloth Cabin Fever sale. When I got home from work on Saturday, my grandparents were over for dinner, and my grandma went gaga over this jacket, which I actually quite enjoyed. Most people my age would burn something if their grandma liked it, but not me. I take it as a compliment. :)

And just look at the lining! Glorious, glorious lining!
I don't think I've ever had a picture of this sweet necklace I got in Vietnam when I was there in '08. I actually didn't wear it for probably at least a year after I got home because I didn't like how big it is. I'm glad I hung on to it for so long, though, since I love it now.

March 21-
I was feeling like doing something different today for my outfit picture, so this is what I came up with... I don't know if I'll stick with this or do my usual white background. Preferences?

I went on a jewelry making spree last night. You won't be seeing any of it in my Etsy shop, though, because it was all for ME. Mwahahaha. One of my new goodies:
