New York Fashion Academy Annual Runway Show

The main purpose of my trip to Seattle this weekend was to go to the New York Fashion Academy's annual fashion show in which all the designer's who have completed the program show their collections. Don't ask me why it's called the New York Fashion Academy when it's in Seattle... some things are more interesting if you don't understand them.

I had the hardest time deciding what to wear to the show, but eventually decided to go with a fairly fail-proof option, my gray Calvin Klein dress. And of course I had to wear cute shoes, so out came the mustard Seychelles. I. Love. Mustard.
This pose was 100% directed by Joni, so if you think I look silly blame her, not me. :)
After taking this picture, Joni said, "My kitchen looks so cute! Oh... I guess you look cute, too!" Thanks, Joni.
Anyhow, the fashion show was super fun. 11 students showed collections and I was thoroughly impressed with most of them. The biggest disappointment for me was how short it was... each designer only showed 4-8 looks, so the whole thing was done within an hour. It was so good that I wanted it to keep on going!

After the show I popped over to say hi to Gina Marie, one of the designers that showed. Gina has been nice enough to answer a few questions for me about the school via email (as it turns out, my old piano teacher's daughter knows Gina and gave me her email). It was neat to be able to put a face to a name. Check out Gina's blog HERE.

We ended up getting to the show only a few minutes before it started so our seats weren't the the greatest for taking pictures, but I did  manage to snag a few.
These looks are from Gina's collection. She had her models wearing the cutest wigs.

All in all, it was a very fun trip! I'm so happy I got to go and see the show (I'm hoping to be able to go to NYFA this fall), and also to meet Joni and her family. As I am now safely on the train on my way home, I can officially say Joni is not a 60-year-old creeper man/ax murderer living in his mom's basement. Yay!

Seattle Trip - John Fluevog

Hello there, John Fluevog. Where have you been all my life?
Me making dopey faces while trying on shoes while the nice shoe saleslady got the next pair ready for me.
Do these make my feet look fat? (kidding)
Fluevogs in motion.
Pondering...
The final 3 to pick from...

How will I ever decide?

Winners! Welcome to my wardrobe, you gorgeous shoes you.
The words on the Fluevog window. No, you're weird! I think I must have been in the middle of saying something. Probably asking Joni why she was taking so darn long to take one picture. :)
All photos by the ultra-awesome Joni James.

Off to Seattle

Hey guys! Today I'm on my way to Seattle to shoe shop and see a fashion show.
But guess where I am right now...

On a train. For reals. The good old Amtrak. You can imagine my excitement last night when I got on the Amtrak website and saw that they now have free Wi-Fi for all passengers (last time I rode Amtrak it was only business class that got it), so naturally I packed up my laptop and made sure it was in my bag and ready to go this morning at 5-freaking-am.

This new installment has led me to declare that Amtrak is officially better than cars, airplanes, and boats combined. There's plenty of leg room, comfy seats that recline (without squashing the person behind you), it's very calm, has Wi-Fi,  no long security lines, you don't have to show up 2 hours early, and there's even a cafe where you can buy coffee, cookies, and muffins whenever your heart desires. This is going to be the best 6 hour trip of my life.
Me on a train. I know, sooo exciting. You get to see what I look like at 6am before I put my contacts in, though, so at least that's kind of interesting?
True story:
One of the ticket master dudes did an intercom announcement and gave instructions for the trip. A little sampling:
‎"Do not flush anything unusual in the toilets. There are no janitors on this train. There is just you and me. If the toilets got blocked, there is no one to fix them. Use the restroom like you would use your mother's toilet."
‎"The coffee is located in cabin 2. If you are seated in cabin 8 or 9, it's the Jenny Craig walk for you."
"I would go over the safety instructions, but I know that you attention is already waning and it would not be very useful. Enjoy your trip."

Have a good weekend, everyone!
