FLYING THE COOP

I'm heading to Florida tomorrow for the Thanksgiving weekend.

As I mentioned before, I hit 50 followers!, and I'm pretty excited about it. I promised to hold a contest/giveaway, and I plan to, just as soon as I (and my heavy comma using ass) return from Florida--I want to see if I can snag some goodies!

I just wanted to drop in a share a quick update with everyone.
I'm bringing my laptop with me, so be prepared for posts while I'm vacationing :)

Since I'm packing--for the third time in 7 days--I'll leave you a random pic or two from my packing 'adventures' the other day... I might have shared these via my twitter, but I'm not 100% sure... I definitely haven't been 100% 'with it' lately... with all the packing and all.

Obviously I find myself easily distracted ... by myself in the mirror.

Welcome to the Accesserobe of the Portmanteau

Following my bid to create an online portfolio of my wardrobe for when I'm away so that I have somewhere to go when I miss it too much, I am looking at my "accesserobe" today although they don't include my proper hats. It starts with some of my sunglasses, I couldn't find all of them as they're still scattered throughout the house - I am always wearing them. Here you can see Aigner mainly, Nicole Farhi, Alessandro Dell'Acqua, Proenza Shouler, Calvin Klein, Cynthia Rowley, and a pair I love that I found in a pound shop.

It moves down to my silk scarves, first the chiffon long ones including Charlotte Taylor, Valentino, Kookai, Moschino, French Connection, and some vintage pieces then the square small ones including several Givenchy, several Moschino, the first silk scarf I owned when I swiftly wandered from my mum's closet into mine, the Christian Dior navy blue big square scarf, DKNY, several Oscar de la Renta, a few pieces from museum shops and the classic, 20 year old lumberjack squares. In between you can see some of my headbands of which I own a lot more that are also scattered across the house... I must take an hour out tomorrow just to find and collect them back to their original place, I think.

One down it starts with thick lambswool scarves by Enrico Coveri and goes onto check thinner and longer lambswool scarves then onto cashmere scarves, my favourites. Some dark knitted scarves including the brown Lira Leirner scarf, right next to my lovely gloves. I love gloves, my hands get cold quickly and I wear gloves until late into spring and start wearing them again late summer (it's London, after all). They are mainly nappa leather lined with cashmere, the only way to keep me warm really - a navy blue, a brown one, a beige one, a red one, a cream one and several black ones. I also have a pair of black biker gloves I love more than any - and some woolen ones although mittens make me nervous - I like knowing I can stretch my fingers out. One of my ticks, I guess. It moves onto my hats, mainly berets in every color and hand knitted hats by me and my great grandmother (who is still alive).

The shelf down has several layers (most of them invisible) of bigger scarves and pashminas, mainly silk or cashmere but some cotton as well - witness to my hippie years during high school. The level below is one of my favourites, that's where my fur and feather collars and hats are stored. It moves over some of my left over shoe boxes entailing fabric belts for dresses so they are all in one place (you may have noticed the rest of my stuff is in Prada and Miu Miu boxes as they are the ones I have most and are biggest/ sturdiest) and don't get lost on the floor of the wardrobe and wallets and clutches to my belts including Valentino and Next but most are vintage because I am not a big fan of the mid-riff belt that is common today - my mid-riff isn't long enough to pull that off and often disappears underneath, uh, two specific things.

Welcome to my Shoedrobe

I am traveling to Brazil soon, for almost a month. I'm looking forward to it, but will not only miss the constant access to wireless internet, usage of my iPhone, M&S food, hugs from Stu and general freedom to do as I please, I will also miss my wardrobe. Probably most of all. Usually when I pack I chose a color and take the basics for that specific color. This only works in theory or when I am away for a weekend. Any kind of voyage that closes in on a week or goes beyond, requires me to choose several colors and 'do' the respective basics - for instance, last year I went to Israel for 10 days. These were the BASICS I chose to take with me (only the basics, I'm pointing out once more). The basics are:

Cardigan (Silk or Cashmere)
Scarf (Silk or Lambswool)
Sunglasses (Mainly Aigner in this case)
Longchamp bag
Pump flats
Heels
Flip Flops
And for some of them a belt and brogues

Now, I am going for almost a month, which requires a lot more planning than this. I mean, this part above is a given, except I've got nicer shoes now and will most likely replace orange with gray. But I also need to decide upon key items for three completely separate categories:

1. Family lunch and dinner outfits, which can couple up as outfits for general functions and inside activities such as mall shopping or anything else done in the safety of a car - aka demure dresses, not extravagant but classic heels, maybe a cardigan and bags for presents I bring (aka my Longchamps) and for when I am working, which will most likely be in a Starbucks, the only place I can imagine has wireless internet. In Brazil it is customary to bring a present when you visit someone.

2. Functions, dinners and gallery openings. Speaks for itself - needs sparkling dresses (I don't mean literally, just figuratively), gorgeous heels, clutch and elegant evening jackets

3. Clothes to work the street. Key here is to blend in, which I believe will be almost impossible considering I'm about as white as a ghost to their standard. I can get a very lovely tan and look a lot more passable then, but the work this summer has kept me inside and I am as close to an English Rose as I ever will be. I don't have high hopes, but I can at least try. Need to stay away from anything too "cool", which will make me stand out immediately as European aka no lumberjack cool with a shirt and jeans or a belt or vest thrown over to layer up a look. This will need to be (long) jeans, a white T-shirt (yes, those plain ones with some motive on them) and usually trainers, but I'm not doing that. I'm going to use Havaianas, which is just as passable. Not looking forward to this part, but should only take up the room of four pieces.

4. Holiday get-away sporty situations. That means summery dresses with elegant pumps or sandals, lovely hats, bikinis and "panos", the beach scarf/ pashmina one wears in Brazil.

So far in my life I have done this pack almost intuitively (aka bring all my favourite stuff on top of the basics), and the results were merely "OK". I could make most of my stuff work, but this time I want to be systematic so that I can find space for all the bargains I will find to bring back!

In order to do so, I will document my wardrobe (also so I can look back at my articles and stroke the screen when I am suffering withdrawal symptoms).

Today, I am starting with shoes. I herewith welcome you to my shoedrobe (portmanteau alert!).

It starts with a Prada, Gucci, Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs collection of red shoes, then moves over across the window to the tan shoes Rupert Sanderson, Jane Shilton, and Dune above the soft colored Miu Miu, Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik, below it the cream selection of Jimmy Choo, Arezzo and Diesel.

It moves into suede then patent leather chocolate brown Prada, Gucci, LK Bennett and Next above gray Lanvin, Prada and Zara above cream and black Miu Miu, Anne Michelle and Corezzo. Then on to a dark, hard to recognize corner with black Miu Miu, Buffalo, and Karen Millen above the yellow and peach moc croc Zara and Buffalo heels above four pairs of dark blue heels. Moves into khaki Zara and Miu Miu heels above purple Jimmy Choo and Kurt Geiger. Moving onto the next shoedrobe there are dark brown Hugo Boss and Karen Millen boots to black Versace heeled boots and second hand boots above six layers of flats ranging from Miu Miu to Tommy Hilfinger to Arezzo to Gina to Roland Cartier.

Moving to the next the lower shelf has black Fendi and Zara boots, silver Marc Jacobs boots and second hand moc cowboy boots, under a shelf of ankle boots by Chanel, Calvin Klein, Gardenia, and Luxury Rebel. Above it Miu Miu wellies next to tie up brogues Shapman & Moore from Bond Street, Russel and Bromley and German brand Kink. It continues with three other heels, some All Stars and four trainers from Nike, Diesel and Addidas and lastly more wellies, second hand suede faux fur lined camel boots and Nike snow boots.

There's also another shelf with a heap of shoes I am trying to sell on eBay, which I haven't included, but my selection once it comes to actually packing will be as outlined above. One of each type for each color. Simples!

BECK TOLD ME I WAS A LOSER... WTF?!

So says the song, so is my life. Ugh.

Talk about a little bit OCD...

I started packing/planning my outfits for my trip back to MD (which is at the end of July) last week--that is two weeks EARLY if you can do the math on that one ;)

Even more pathetic is the fact that I just made a spreadsheet, YES, I said spreadsheet, planning/organizing my time for the 7 1/2 days that I am home.

How lame is that?

I'm half tempted to show you all my spreadsheet--hehe that sounds kinda dirty--but it's not 100% yet. I've still got a few gaps in it that need to be filled (woah! that sounds dirty too--HA I like it!)

Just thought I'd share my OCD/pathetic/loser-ish need to obsess over the tiniest little things; i.e. packing for a trip which includes two weddings, a rehearsal dinner, a bachelorette party, shopping trips, drinking adventures, a bottle of bubbly in my room after the wedding, a ride-a-long with my favorite Towson Police officer, a day trip to D.C., and who knows what else [all of that NOT being in the correct order--btw].

Yeah, okay, I'm done.

PRESENTS from THE POSSESSIONISTA

A week or so ago Dana from The Possessionista offered her readers a chance to snag the Trinity grey blouse that McKaela from the Hills wore during an episode this season.

Well I jumped on the wagon and ordered one!
This evening I check my email and I had a message from Dana telling me that my blouse is soon to be on its way!

Sweeeeet!
I'm excited! And I so appreciate Dana hooking her fashion obsessive and possessive readers [LIKE ME!] up!
Thanks Dana!

Maybe if I'm lucky it'll arrive before my trip back up to MD... I booked my tickets tonight--and started my packing list. My flight doesn't leave until the 23rd. It might be a little early for packing lists... ya think!?

Nah!
