Style Inspiration: Lela Rose Fall 2011

If I ever met Lela Rose in real life and didn't know she was a fashion designer, I would never guess that is her occupation. I don't know what a designer is supposed to look like, but she's not it.

Luckily for my eyes Lela Rose is a fashion designer and makes pretty clothes. Let's have a gander, shall we?

Oddly enough, I really love the first half of this collection and am not so big on the second half. Usually shows are the other way around, with the designer saving the big guns for the final few looks. If I could, I would have made that black flowy dress in the beginning of the 6th row the end of the collection, keeping every look before that an canning every look after it. But Lela Rose didn't call me and get my opinion, so the foo-foo dresses stayed.

The first half is just so incredibly hip and chic, and very much what's 'happening' right now in fashion. The separates are killer, and the knee socks and heels combo is very popular at the moment. I also love the prints she used and the way she worked the same print into several different outfits.

The second half is basically just a collection of better-than-average bridesmaids dresses. There isn't really anything interesting or new about them.

So to break it down, my love for the looks before the flowy dress (and I just noticed, they are also all the ones with knee socks) could surpass even that of my love for Jason Wu's collection - and that's saying something! But the back half of this one is such a let-down. Generic dress after generic dress killed that young, hip vibe she created so well in the beginning.
