Positive move!

AP Photo
I live in Santa Clara county. The county that, as of today, voted to ban toys in children's fast food meals. See article here.
I have to say I think this is a great idea! Let the big businesses use gimics to get adults to eat junk food, but leave the children alone!

I know people will have strong opinions on both sides of this debate. I think this is a positive step on behalf of our kids' health and well-being. What do you think?

Art deco 1925-1940

The term 'Art Deco' was found from the "Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industrial Modernes" which was held in paris in 1925. Coco Chanel was the perfect role model for the modern woman. She designed comfortable and "streamlined" clothes that weren't  fussy or elaborate. Coco Chanel's life was also legendary, as she was brought up in a orphanage and then used her many affairs wit influential men to advance both her career and her financial position. Although Art Deco was considered an early modern style, there  was no political ideology associated with it and unlike Early Modern, Art Deco gained Popular acceptance.

I think Art Deco is a popular era which is used a lot nowadays, like Early Modern it uses a lot of geometric lines and shapes. i think their designs are very elegant and clean which is why this era is very popular.

Early modern

Early modernism was an influential era between 1910- 1935. These artists were described as "avant garde" which means new or experimental, they were named this because these groups of artists never gained popular acceptance. Their ideas and philosophies had a major influence on all art, design, architecture, fashion and even literature. Expressionists were inspired by woodblock prints, art by children and or unschooled artists. They had new approaches to art and life, often depicting alienation, anxiety and despair, proportion was exaggerated and there figures were distorted. Lucian Bern-hard was a very influential designer that took that further step back and reduced objects into there simplest shape and form.

i think this era is very interesting, i like the way they reduce everything to look very simple it reminds me of the Swiss International era. i also like the way their work looked very casual but very orderly at the same time.

Gray?

I used to love to dye my hair, it was fun to make subtle changes. But now that I have grey, and feel the need to dye, it's not fun. It's tedious! I am still only slightly gray, but I am noticing it more and more.

Anne Kreamer wrote a book about the transition to gray.
She talks about the different perceptions and attitudes toward women and aging.

She notes that fewer than 10 percent of American women colored their hair in the 1950s, compared with up to 75 percent today.
There are some really interesting surveys she conducts for this book. Check out the photos and perceptions of those surveyed.

I wonder at what point will I decide to go natural and let my gray take over. I am not ready to give up the dye yet.

Pastel Pink obsession

I've just seen the newest movie by Jane Campion „The Bright Star". And I must say I really loved it! It's one of the most graphic and artistic films I've ever seen. The characters and interiors look like they were hand painted in beautiful pastel colors. The color that was seen most often and I must say caught my attention was pink pastel.

While searching through the SS10 collections and what’s being sold in stores I’ve found a lot of dresses, skirts and accessories that are perfect to wear for the spring. As we all know pastel pink is a romantic color and what color is better to wear in spring when people fall in love and want to share their happiness with everybody else.

Pastel pink looks great with other colors from the pastel family like baby blue for example but it also looks great while compared with the natural background. Like in „The Bright Star“, try to wear it for a walk to the park or to the forest. Be romantic!

Karl Lagerfeld is doing coke

Karl Lagerfeld has never hidden that he loves to drink Coca Cola light. In one of the interviews he admited that back in 2001 he's lost around 30kg with coke's help and it remains his favourite drink until this day. Now he could have thanked Coca-Cola company by designing the limited bottle of Coca-Cola Light. As you can see from enclosed pictures the Lagerfeld's white bottle shows designer's silhouette in black with his signature and Coca-Cola logo also in black. The word light and bottle's cap are pink.

The picture for coke light's ad was taken by Lagerfeld himself. He's chosen models Coco Rocha and Baptiste Giacobini to pose for him for the picture. The limited Coca-Cola bottle is sold together with a bottle opener. It costs approximately 50 euros and can be bought in Parisian stores Les Galeries Lafayette and Colette. Anybody going to Paris in the near future?

Ella Simms' style (Melrose Place 2009-2010)

The new "Melrose Place" series came to an end, at least its first season. I must say I am a fan of both the old and new series and really hope to see it back in the fall. While waiting for CW's announcement, I'd like to pay a little tribute to a "Melrose Place" character Ella Simms, played by Katie Cassidy. Ella Simms is a blond and beautiful publicist, who'd like to make her name in a PR business and is ready to do it at any cost.

Katie Cassidy was first spotted by me in a "Harper's Island" series, where she played a fiancée to the main character. She is slowly making her way to the top in Hollywood just as her character in "Melrose Place". She will soon be seen in the remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and hopefully coming back to the "Melrose Palce" set to again wear shoes and clothes of Ella Simms.

A lot of viewers choose to watch "Melrose Place" especially for Cassidy's character. She's a hard working, savvy and always perfectly dressed PR girl. What I love most about her style is that she's not afraid of trying different things. She wears a lot of short dresses, cool jewellery but also puts on great, big hats or black gloves. Whatever she wears, she always looks fabulous. I really like especially her work style. The way she combines little dresses with cute jackets just makes me want to work for her agency and be able to wear all of those amazing dresses to work.
